Pediculosis capitis, also known as head lice, is caused by an infestation of parasitic insects called Pediculus humanus capitis. These insects feed on blood from the scalp and can be spread through close contact with someone who already has an infestation. It is important to note that pediculosis capitis is not caused by ringworm, bacteria, or fungi. Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin, bacteria may cause other skin conditions such as impetigo, and fungal infections can cause various skin disorders. However, none of these conditions are related to the infestation of head lice.
